Planning, Zoning and Land Use Committee

A message from Caleb Racicot, chair of our Planning Zoning and Land Use Committee.

Feb. 13, 2003

Dear Neighbors,

As you may know, the Downtown Neighborhood Association recently established committees to address various concerns in our neighborhood. One such committee is the Planning, Zoning, and Land Use Committee, for which I am the Chair.

There are several core roles for this committee. These include:

  • Ensuring that the ADNA is represented on Neighborhood Planning Unit M;
  • Monitoring liquor license applications and activities;
  • Working with the City and Central Atlanta Progress to provide input on potential development activities;
  • Working with the City and Central Atlanta Progress to provide input on streetscape and other public infrastructure initiatives;
  • Assessing the need for locally designated historic buildings and districts and working with the Atlanta Urban Design Commission to protect our neighborhood's architectural treasures, as deemed appropriate; and
  • Keeping the ADNA informed on all of the above activities and soliciting support on an as-needed basis.

Meeting times or frequencies have not been established, but will probably be once a month.

If you are interested in joining this committee please let me know as soon as possible by sending e-mail to cracicot@biltmorecomm.com. With several major upcoming initiatives and projects in our neighborhood, including the Georgia Aquarium, The World of Coca-Cola move, the Downtown Livability Code, and continued residential and commercial development, our input and proactive relationship with the City, the State, Central Atlanta Progress and private developers will be key to ensuring that Downtown's needs as an urban neighborhood are balanced with its larger role as heart of the greater Atlanta region.

Regards,

Caleb Racicot
