TAD Amendment 2 Needs your Support - Vote YES!

There is considerable print devoted to why we should not support Amendment 2 and how it will take away funding from our local schools. Approval of Amendment 2 does not take away school district's say in participation.  It is entirely voluntary on their part.  Please read this article - it gives a succinct description of the TAD mechanism and the benefits for schools and communities.  Please Vote YES to support this legislation.  Without this vital economic development tool underdeveloped communities, including many areas in our own Westside (City of Atlanta) TAD, will continue to struggle.  TADs are a proven best practice for development in 48 states!

Public Lecture focusing on our own downtown library architecture and Funding Referendum on Nov. 4 ballot:

The public is invited to a lecture co-sponsored by the Georgia Chapter of DOCOMOMO (which documents and conserves examples of the Modern Movement in Architecture) and Georgia Tech College of Architecture. Isabelle Hyman will explore the 28-year-old Central Library of the Atlanta-Fulton County Library System designed by Marcel Breuer. Georgia Tech College of Architecture Library, Tuesday Oct. 28 from 6-7:30pm

Also, on Nov. 4th, Fulton County voters will have an opportunity to approve a Library Bond Referendum for enhanced, exceptional, equitable library service throughout the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System. With significant population growth in Fulton County and consistent increase in library use over the last 20+ years, current structures are too small and not ideally located, with outdated infrastructures and facilities.  This is a $275 million bond for capital improvements to the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, providing funds for 8 new branch libraries, 2 expanded libraries and 23 renovated libraries, a major expansion of the Auburn Avenue Research Library and significant funding for a new or renovated Central Library.  A $150,000 Fulton County home would see a library tax increase of $18.96 per year to support this plan, or $1.58 per month. A $300,000 home would pay $37.92 per year, or $3.16 per month.

Libraries make good neighbors - with 34 libraries throughout the county offering activities, exhibits, cutting-edge technology along with traditional books, collections and services-libraries are more relevant today than ever!
