City Council Supports Mayor's Office re: Shelter Funding

Thanks to everyone who participated by writing letters or appearing and speaking on behalf of those who want to see the Peachtree and Pine Shelter operated by the Task Force for the Homeless adhere to the same standards for operation as other shelters receiving Federal and State Funding!  This Monday, in a 9-5 vote, the City Council voted to support the Mayor's office in their recommendation against continued funding for this problematic shelter.

New Restaurant Planned for Downtown!

Il Mulino, one of the top restaurants in New York, has selected the 191 Peachtree Tower building for its Atlanta restaurant. Zagat has repeatedly listed Il Mulino in Greenwich Village as New York's top Italian restaurant. The restaurant will bring new life to Peachtree Street because it will be located in the now-vacant space that used to house the Wachovia bank branch across the lobby from the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta. This is one more piece of evidence that the decision by Cousins Properties to buy the 191 building and move its own corporate headquarters there is bringing new life to downtown. "This shows downtown has arrived on the restaurant scene," said A.J.Robinson, president of Central Atlanta Progress.  -from Maria Saporta's AJC column Aug 9.
