Could it be? a grocery store - in Downtown Atlanta?

According to an article in The Daily Report, Publix is in discussions with Barry Real Estate to occupy part of the office space at their new 24  Ivan Allen Plaza project!

Many of you might remember an ADNA meeting last year where several store reps, including Publix presented what it might take for this to occur - congratulations to all who showed up and made us look like a community!

Central Atlanta Progress Updates for Downtown

Starting June 29, the Ambassadors and Clean Team personnel will begin operations in the 20 square-block addition in the new Railroad District south of Marietta Street, increasing coverage in Downtown to a 220 block area. For more details, contact David Wardell, dwardell@centralatlantaprogress.org.

Also, at a recent  joint CAP and ADID Board meeting five major priorities were discussed and supported as vital ambitions for Downtown: casino gaming , East-West corridor growth plans, a Downtown circulator shuttle, continuance of a multi-year plan for Woodruff Park and public space vending management.

And plan ahead, because due to major renovation work at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Baker Street from Courtland to Peachtree Center Avenue will be shut down to vehicular traffic starting June 29 through the end of the year.

Egads! Georgia Brewery Tours in Jeopardy!

The Georgia Department of Revenue is proposing new rules for Craft Breweries (i.e., Sweetwater, et al) who serve beer during their facility tours.  They propose to limit the pour to 2 oz. of each of 8 beer styles, or maximum of 16oz.  Because Sweetwater only offers four beers they will be limited to 8 oz of beer.  Sweetwater and others have put much effort into this fun tour structure and stand to lose customers, employees and market share.   Please support our local Brewery (and ADNA friend) and let the GA Dept of Revenue know your opinion by writing to
regcomments@dor.ga.gov
PLEASE REFERENCE NOTICE NUMBER AT-2007-1-560-2-2-.61 ON ALL COMMENTS.  The Department must receive all comments regarding the proposed Rules from interested persons no later than 10am on June 19th, 2007.

Atlanta is a big classroom

Did you know that The Atlanta New Century School, located on Luckie Street is the first independent, fully accredited, non-profit elementary school Downtown -- letting
students explore concepts taught in the classroom by incorporating exposure
to Atlanta's educational and cultural resources through weekly field trips?

The Force Behind the Force

The Atlanta Police Foundation was established in 2003 with the primary mission of providing resources that will assist the Atlanta Police Department to make Atlanta a safer and more secure city.  By focusing its efforts on six specific programs, the Foundation has made significant contributions toward providing our officers with the tools they need.

Through membership in the Atlanta Police Foundation every resident can do their part to help provide critical resources for the APD and provide immeasurable moral support for the men and women who risk their lives to keep us safe.  Membership levels begin at $25 and your support is important.

To learn more about the programs supported by membership dollars or to join online, click on "Become a Member of the Force Behind the Force".  Contact Janie Foy at 404.586.0180 or jfoy@atlantapolicefoundation.org for further information.
