Forsyth Street Temporary Closure This Week

There is a non-emergency operation being conducted  on Forsyth Street by personnel of the City of Atlanta (Wastewater) involving the east northbound side of the street. Excavation, which is expected to continue all week, will conclude each day around 3:30-4:00 p.m.  From Tuesday through the rest of the week, the operation will begin around 9:00 a.m.  All lanes from Alabama Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. will be blocked during the excavation operations.  A portion of the drop-off spots for the childcare will remain open.

German Breakfast Club Atlanta

Do you love German-style breakfast? Have a craving for good bread? Muesli? Yogurt? Strong coffee? Are you looking for a way to practice your German?

Well, the idea of this group is for a bunch of Downtown folks to get together, say once a month, on a Sat. or Sun. morning and chat over a potluck breakfast, rotating around at different people's homes.

More info, contact Wendy Darling, wdarling@abraxis.com, 404-784-2543 or her German Breakfast Club Atlanta group site.

APD's Clean Car Campaign

On behalf of APD, Major Williams of Zone 5 is soliciting your assistance with crime reduction by participating in the "Clean Car" campaign.  (And no, they're not washing our cars.)

In 2008, Zone 5 arrested 114 subjects for breaking into cars. Collectively, those subjects have been arrested a grand total of 2080 times! Thirty of them are still in jail, but 84 are back onto our streets.  Clearly arrests are not a deterrent.

APD is suggesting a more proactive and common sense citizen effort:  Remove all viewable valuables from your vehicle before you leave!  You will reduce the odds of your vehicle break-in by nearly 95%!  Parking lot owners, managers, and attendants:  Ask your customers if all valuables were removed! And everyone: Remind your co-workers, clients, residents, family, and friends to remove ALL items APD once had a vehicle's window busted as a result of fifteen cents left on the console's coin area!  For an interesting website visit APD's interactive Crime Map. They're behind in updating (October) but it shows all arrests for the entire city with colored crime balloons.  Select Zone 5 and the type of crime you're interested in.

With APD's Clean Car campaign, eventually we will all enjoy lower crime stats and insurance rates, and the quality-of- life that downtown Atlanta deserves, which will likely bring more conventions, businesses, and attractions to our area. And, unlike other initiatives and studies, this one is measurable immediately: we can assess how well we are doing and which parking lot, offices, and residents are participating. Please support this initiative, and encourage those who live and work downtown to get on board!
