Downtown Atlanta’s Central Library will buzz with activity during a day of volunteer work and events on Saturday, October 25th, from 1pm to 5pm. Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association is partnering with the Atlanta‐Fulton Public Library System and Friends of Central Atlanta Library for a landscaping project, a book sale, and library tours.
Volunteers from the neighborhood have big plans for the library’s front planter. They will be cleaning out debris, pruning the existing shrubs, rejuvenating the soil, and adding new plants and mulch to help make the library’s entry plaza a vibrant civic space once again.
Inside the library, volunteers will host a book sale. There will also be tours of the building, designed by noted architect Marcel Breuer, to let everyone learn more about it and the many programs offered.
The day of events happens during National Friends of the Library Week. Funding is provided by a grant from Love Your Block, a City of Atlanta program that supports citizens and neighborhood groups that want to plan and organize efforts to beautify their communities.
Partners and sponsors for the event include: Atlanta Community ToolBank, Atlanta Downtown Neighborhood Association, Atlanta‐Fulton Public Library System, Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, City of Atlanta ‐ Office of the Mayor, City of Atlanta ‐ Council District 2, Cities of Service, Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta ‐ Neighborhood Fund, Friends of Central Atlanta Library, Gibbs Landscape Company, Hands On Atlanta, and The Home Depot Foundation.
The Central Library is located at One Margaret Mitchell Square, Atlanta, GA 30303.
