ADNA Spring Clean Up

Citizens Police Academy beginning April 18

Posted by Susan Roe | ADNA, Law Enforcement | Tuesday, March 27, 2012 3:07 pm

Have you ever wondered what our police do?  You may have an opportunity!  Applications will be coming out for the upcoming Citizens Police Academy… watch this space!

Our neighbors Doug Brewer and Adam Shumaker are proud graduates. According to Doug:

“I participated in the Atlanta Citizen’s Policy Academy in 2011, and I would recommend it to anyone living downtown.  The Citizens Police Academy is more than just public relations by APD, it’s taken seriously from the top down.  The first class was attended by Chief Turner, all the zone commanders and the heads of the divisions (homicide, narcotics, etc).  Each class is taught by a division head, or their direct report.  Questions are encouraged, and honest answers were given, even if the APD was not shown in the best light.  During the course we toured the 911 center and were able to see the room that all the downtown cameras feed into.  Some of the class topics were: Police Procedure, DUI task force, LGBT, Crime Scene Management and Internal Affairs.  A ride-a-long with ad APD officer is part of the course, but not mandatory.

If anyone is interested, and would like to speak with me about my experience, please feel free to e-mail me at jdougbrewer AT gmail.com”
